What is the OIG & Sam.gov/GSA Exclusion Lists and Why is it Important to Check

What is the OIG & Sam.gov/GSA Exclusion Lists

Author: Jessica Bohm/Thursday, March 23, 2017/Categories: CAPS

The Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) list of excluded individuals is a database of those persons barred from participating in any federally funded healthcare programs.  This list is specific to the healthcare field.

There are several reasons for an individual to be placed on the OIG Exclusion list.  They can range from patient fraud and abuse to default on Health Education Assistance Loans.  The time an individual is on the list can also depend on the offense committed.

Most General Services Administration (GSA) excluded parties are vendors or corporations.  Some individuals with their own businesses can be found on this list.

Since there are many reasons for a person to be found on the OIG and GSA exclusion list, it is imperative that you check all employees monthly.

All APNS pharmacies need to make sure their employee information is listed and correct on the APNS Credentialing Portal.  Starting back in May 2016, APNS contracted with Medversant to complete this monthly task for you.  If you have an audit and need this information please contact APNS and we will be happy to supply it to you.
