As a reminder, many Plan Sponsors will begin implementing new opioid plan edits on January 1, 2018. To help ensure safe use of opioid pain management medications, some opioid pain products will be subject to utilization management changes.

Prescriptions for patients new to opioid therapy and those already receiving opioid therapy will reject at the pharmacy if the patient’s therapy exceeds specific limits based upon the patient’s plan design.
