The generic for Istalol 0.5% ophthalmic solution recently became available in the marketplace; however, effective December 31, 2017, select Medicare Part D plans adjudicating claims through CVS Caremark® will continue to cover the brand name Istalol 0.5% ophthalmic solution at the Preferred Brand Tier 3.

The generic (timolol maleate 0.5% ophthalmic solution) will NOT be covered for these Medicare Part D plan members. Please continue to dispense Istalol 0.5% ophthalmic solution as prescribed rather than substituting the generic. If claims for the generic are submitted, the following reject will occur:
