Effective Jan. 1, 2018, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) will update its prescription drug list (PDL), which will affect commercial members in Blue-Care® (HMO), BlueSelect Plus (PPO), Preferred-Care® (PPO) and Preferred-Care Blue® (PPO) plans. These changes do not affect group members on the Express Scripts High Performance Formulary. Benefit exclusions may apply.

These changes will result in some medications changing tiers. Additionally, some members must first try two medications that are proven to be safe and effective (and lower cost) for treating their condition/symptoms. If the medication doesn’t work for them, the member’s prescriber can request a Prior Authorization to allow the Tier 3 (nonpreferred) drug. Please see the tables that follow for more information.
