Effective 03/01/2018, a new pharmacy system safety edit will alert you when a UnitedHealthcare Community Plan member attempts to fill a medication for Basal Insulins and Sleep Aides within the same class as a medication already filled within the last 30 days. To dispense the medication, you will need to review why the patient is attempting to fill another medication in the same class so quickly and resolve the reject in the pharmacy system.

This TD safety edit is already in place for the Respiratory, Diabetic Agents, Opioids, etc. We’re now expanding it to include the Basal Insulins and Sleep Aides.

The pharmacy system will compare the member’s current medications to the drug you are processing, and flag duplicate medications with the reason code TD (therapeutic duplication):

TD: ANOTHER [specific drug class] PRODUCT WAS FILLED.
