Beginning March 1, 2018, Superior HealthPlan will limit the daily Morphine Equivalent Dose (MED) that our Medicaid and CHIP Members may receive. This MED limit follows guidance provided by the Texas Vendor Drug Program (VDP) and models a similar taper schedule fee-for-service patients also follow. The initial limit will be set at 300 MED, and will be applied to all opioid prescriptions with exceptions for people diagnosed with cancer or those receiving palliative or hospice care.

The maximum allowable MED will decrease over time according to the following tentative schedule:
