As a result of DUR program requirements in the Medicaid Final Rule (CMS-2390-F), which applies to Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) & CHIP programs, pharmacists must consult beneficiary records to identify drug-disease contraindications or ask about drug-allergy issues at the point-of-sale and provide patient counseling as needed. It is the pharmacist’s responsibility to identify potential drug problems and counsel the patient as needed. Pharmacists are to use any applicable MedImpact-issued drug alerts to assist in identification of drug issues.
MedImpact Actions
MedImpact’s claims processing system supports ProDUR requirements by sending alerts to the pharmacy for potential drug problems. With the exception of drug-disease contraindication and drug-allergy interaction, MedImpact performs all of the required ProDUR checks listed in the section below.
