Effective April 1, 2018

Author: Erica Lawrence/Wednesday, March 28, 2018/Categories: APCI Choice

Effective April 1, 2018, Absolute Total Care will implement edits limiting the initial prescribing of opioid medications for the treatment of acute or post-operative pain to no more than a five-day supply. Providers must not exceed this limit except in cases of chronic pain, cancer pain, pain related to sickle cell, hospice care, palliative care or medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorder. Pharmacies can enter an ICD code at the point-of-sale to confirm a diagnosis of cancer, palliative care or sickle cell and obtain payment.

In addition, providers must not exceed 90 morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs) daily. In cases of cancer pain, palliative care, sickle cell, hospice care or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use disorder, contact Envolve Pharmacy Solutions to obtain payment.
