Flu Vaccine Reservations

Action needed by June 1

Author: APCI Staff/Tuesday, May 22, 2018/Categories: Professional and Clinical Affairs

The upcoming flu season is swiftly approaching, and our plan is to be ready to hit the ground running this year and have flu vaccine early so we can protect our patients and be ready for our scheduled flu clinics.

We have an agreement with McKesson to provide much of our flu vaccine this year with FFF Enterprises being our back up. McKesson is going to warehouse any flu vaccine we reserve in their local distribution center for APCI pharmacies. McKesson is allowing APCI member pharmacies to “reserve” a quantity of vaccine that you want to purchase this year at no risk to you. McKesson took your flu purchases from last year and loaded that quantity in reserve for you this year. If you did not place an order with McKesson last year, you will need to create an order. If you have not already reviewed your flu order, we urge you to do so now so you can get your vaccine supply for this year. McKesson is ordering about 40% more vaccine to have on hand for us this year but you will have to adjust your orders accordingly.

For all stores that do not have a reservation currently, McKesson reserved two boxes of Afluria Quad PFS and two boxes of FluZone Quad PFS. That gives each pharmacy 40 doses, but we recommend going into McKesson and adjusting the reservation to meet your projected needs. If you decide not to use all of your reservation, it will go back into open stock and you are not responsible for buying it. Again, if you have not started a reservation, McKesson ordered you a starter supply that you can adjust yourself by June 1, 2018. McKesson has indicated that you will not be charged or responsible for the vaccine until it is shipped to you.

McKesson is attempting to make this process as simple as possible to take care of our vaccine needs. They will have a representative touching base with you on your orders and reservations throughout the season. The vaccine will start shipping in late July to October in waves. Please plan your clinics accordingly. APCI  recommends not scheduling any clinics until around the second week of September. If you need to schedule sooner, please work with McKesson and APCI to arrange doses.

Please review the flu vaccine timeline and talking points and the McKesson Healthmart Flu Program info. We urge all APCI members to log into McKesson and review your reservation. Instructions are included in the timeline link above.

Use the link below to access McKesson Connect reservation. You have until June 1, 2018 to adjust or add items to your reservation.

Finally, we understand that McKesson’s handling of vaccine supply last year was not acceptable. However, we believe they are committed to making big improvements this season. Let’s have a great flu season and take care of our valued patients.
