FYI – Patient Contacts Re: Medicare Plans

Author: APCI Staff/Friday, October 22, 2021/Categories: APCI News

It has come to our attention that PrescribeWellness sent letters – under the pharmacy name – to a number of patients of APCI member pharmacies promoting the eHealth Medicare plan brokerage. These letters ask the patient to call a toll-free number to discuss Medicare plan options. At this time, we are not sure how many of these letters were sent, nor do we know how many patients may have changed pharmacies as a result. We are currently in contact with PrescribeWellness to learn the full extent of this situation. We know of at least one instance where an APCI member pharmacy lost a patient to a mail order pharmacy because of these letters.

APCI knew beforehand of the PrescribeWellness partnership with eHealth and gave explicit instructions to PrescribeWellness not to contact any patients of APCI member pharmacies.  At no time did APCI give PrescribeWellness any permission, implicit or otherwise, to contact member patients. It is possible that individual pharmacies may have knowingly or unwittingly given that permission to PrescribeWellness.

We have directed PrescribeWellness to immediately stop sending letters promoting eHealth to patients of APCI member pharmacies.

If you have questions we encourage you to contact your APCI Account Executive.
