Shortage began in August 2022

Late last week the FDA removed Ozempic and Wegovy from the drug shortage list about four months after determining the drugs, commonly prescribed to treat weight loss and obesity, were available.

In October 2024, FDA determined there was an available supply of both drugs and they were no longer currently in shortage.

For more on the announcement, click here.

The FDA also released a statement on the issue, clarifying enforcement of action against compounders now that the drugs are no longer on the drug shortage list. Compounders under section 503A of the FD&C Act have 60 days to move patients to the FDA approved drugs. The deadline is April 22, 2025. For outsourcing facilities under section 503B of the FD&C Act, have 90 days until May 22, 2025.
