Author: Kailee Burnett/Wednesday, August 16, 2017/Categories: APCI Choice, CAPS

Effective Aug. 1, Express Scripts clients will have the option to require Concerta® and Adderall XR® be dispensed over their generic equivalents. For clients that selected this option, the appropriate brand-name drug and a Dispense as Written (DAW) code of 9 "Substitution Allowed By Prescriber but Plan Requests Brand - Patient's Plan Requested Brand Product To Be Dispensed" will be required on the claim submission. If generics are submitted in this scenario, claims will reject with NCPDP reject 70 "Product/Service Not Covered – Plan/Benefit Exclusion" and pharmacies will receive the accompanying secondary message "RESUBMIT WITH BRAND AND DAW9". If applicable, you may resolve this rejection by resubmitting the claim with the brand name medication and DAW code 9.
