APCI began as a small buying group for a limited number of independent pharmacies in central Alabama. Since that time, the cooperative has grown to more than 1,800 members pharmacies in 26 states, and provides its members with a wide range of products and services.

Our mission is to represent the economic and professional interests of independent pharmacies by providing leadership, vision, and a collective voice for our members in the healthcare marketplace. Our goal is to level the playing field for our member pharmacies by providing innovative, targeted programs to benefit our entire membership.

OptumRx: Cigna Commercial Customers Formulary Change

Effective December 15th 2016

FORMULARY CHANGE

CIGNA COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS

Cigna is making a formulary change to Samsca that may impact customers at your pharmacy. Effective 12/15/2016, Samsca will be covered as a specialty medication on Cigna's Prescription Drug List for non-Medicare/Medicaid members. Also, Samsca will be considered a "Limited Distribution Drug," meaning the manufacturer has chosen to limit its supply to only a few pharmacies in the United States.

OptumRx: Recall of Hyoscyamine by Virtus Pharmaceuticals

Effective September 14th 2016

On September 14, 2016, Virtus announced a recall of some lots of hyoscyamine 0.125 mg products because of superpotent and subpotent test results.

Per Virtus Pharmaceuticals, taking hyoscyamine that is superpotent could result in hot/dry skin, fever, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, dry mouth, unusual excitement, fast/irregular heartbeat, dizziness, inability to empty the bladder, and seizures. The severity of the adverse event would depend on how superpotent the tablet was. Blood clots, fractures and other serious adverse events may occur as a result of falls from dizziness or seizures if the strength is too high.

US Script: Opioid Prescribing Limits

Effective October 1st 2016

Opioid Prescribing Limits – Effective October 1, 2016

Managed Health Services (MHS) has worked with the State Medicaid program to determine a set of common criteria that balances the clinical need for opioid pain medications, while helping to minimize the number of members on opioid medications for longer than clinically needed. This was a collaborative effort to create limits that support both CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain and the Indiana Pain Management Prescribing Rules.

Prime Therapeutics: Vibra Health Plan - New Client

Effective January 1st 2017

Dear Valued Provider,

Effective January 1, 2017, Vibra Health Plan will begin using Prime as its pharmacy benefit management service provider to manage its prescription drug benefits for their new Medicare Advantage Plan.

Vibra Health Plan is focused on serving Medicare Advantage beneficiaries and is committed to providing enhanced support and navigation through its one of kind member advocacy program. Vibra is headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa. and will begin marketing on October 1, 2016. Through its partnership with Prime, Vibra will partner with local pharmacies in Pennsylvania to offer an excellent package of prescription drug benefits for its members.

Prime Therapeutics: Texas STAR Kids Program

Effective: November 1, 2016

 Effective November 1, 2016, Prime will begin providing prescription drug services to members of the Texas Medicaid Program for State of Texas Access Reform Kids ("STAR Kids"), a program administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. In addition, there will be reimbursement changes to the 340B claims under the Texas Medicaid Network.
