On December 7, 2016, Supernus announced a recall of one lot of Trokendi XR (topiramate) 200 mg extended-release capsules because the lot has improperly placed tamper evident seals that do not meet specification for child-resistance, as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, posing a risk of poisoning if swallowed by children.

Per Supernus, there is no issue with the internal blister card or drug product. The recalled product is safe for use when used as directed.

OptumRx notified members who may be affected by this recall. These members were provided information to help them identify if their medication is being recalled and advised to obtain a replacement from their pharmacy. In the future, these members may inquire about the Trokendi XR prescription(s) you dispensed.
