Since 1984, APCI has been the ‘united voice of independent pharmacy’

APCI began as a small buying group for a limited number of independent pharmacies in central Alabama. Since that time, the cooperative has grown to more than 1,800 members pharmacies in 26 states, and provides its members with a wide range of products and services.

Our mission is to represent the economic and professional interests of independent pharmacies by providing leadership, vision, and a collective voice for our members in the healthcare marketplace. Our goal is to level the playing field for our member pharmacies by providing innovative, targeted programs to benefit our entire membership.

Prime Therapeutics: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama - Prescriber ID Processing Reminder

Effective December 1st 2016

Effective December 1, 2016, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBS of AL) increased the number of Prescribing Provider rejections Participating Pharmacies might receive for Commercial Covered Persons. Please see the attachment below for further processing instructions.

CVS Caremark® Part D Services: SilverScript Formulary - Generic Crestor Substitution Opportunity

Effective January 1st 2017

As previously communicated in August, the generic rosuvastatin calcium was added to the SilverScript formulary, in addition to the brand Crestor. Effective January 1, 2017:

• rosuvastatin calcium will be covered as a Tier 2 drug

• Crestor will be covered as a Tier 4 drug

This means SilverScript members can experience a significant savings by taking the generic. If drug cost is a major factor for your SilverScript members’ ability to comply with their statin therapy, when reaching out to members, please let them know the significant savings they can achieve by changing to the generic rosuvastatin calcium.

CVS Caremark®: Wellmark plans on the Marketplace - New Implementation

Effective January 1st 2017

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield is an existing plan with CVS Caremark®. Effective January 1, 2017, CVS Caremark will begin to administer the prescription benefits for Wellmark plans purchased through the health insurance Marketplace on Healthcare.gov.
